0160 – Lessons from Boston

America is really a free country.

While people are not afraid to be queer, I heard an old man shouted ‘Harvard queer! Harvard queer!’ It’s sad.

And… there is this sign that reads ‘Obama has gone completely Fascist!’ or something along that line, right in front of Harvard Co-op. It amazes me, the political freedom of expression. We can probably do this in Thailand as well, but nobody does it because they can get killed by the opposition. Here in America, I ain’t see no fights man!

And people walk a lot. literally. I walk and walk and walk. Tiring day. I thought I am keeping up with the American pace, but I am not. Goddd. I need to learn how to be used to walking all over the place.

Suddenly, I have many more things to learn.

i dont think america is a free country. it might be more free than asia, where u guys politics are just crazy, but for someone from new zealand? we wonder at the shit that goes down in the states. seriously, when the dixie chicks spoke out against bush and got like totally burned for it? thats not freedom of speech. if one of our bands spoke out against the govt noone would give a shit. noone wud even listen. what about when janet jacksons boob got spilled over and there was a huge uproar? their censorship is just ridiculous. if that happned over here we would all laugh, i mean, we have national nude day over here!! everyone over there seems to own a gun cos tehy are all frightened for their lives- how is that free? here u can only own a gun for hunting etc- and we ahve like shit all murder and all feel safe at night for the most part. america is scared of terroism, of school shootings, of other countries. hell, gay marriage isnt legal in most states! how is that freedom?
i dont come from the perfect country. but i do feel we are free. bscially cos noone gives a shit what u do. we dont get the latest fashions and there isnt half as much as there is to do in the states, but we are pretty free. i mean we are one of the least religious countries in the world, with a very low crime rate.
its fascinating how different pple see different countries. obviously for u to see the states as free means thailand must be less free, and for me to see the states as um…not so free… means new zealand must be more so. i gues neither of us is right or wrong, but u shud def travel some more to other places to the see culture diffs. i have visited the states, and the culture differences are massive!!
ur welcome in new zealand ne time ๐Ÿ™‚
pleased ur enjoying the states tho ,i do really wanna go back there, maybe next yr, its SUCH a fun place!!! and ple are so friendly there. ๐Ÿ™‚
